The 1970s was the period that brands tried to do things more differently from traditional ways. With pieces like VC 222, CHOPARD Happy Diamonds, or HERMÈS Arceau, they all showed a new trend of brands who wanted to break through what was before a conventional standard.
Same for OMEGA, you might get familiar with the Constellation ‘Pie Pan’ or C-shaped case. However, the 1970s was the time OMEGA experimented the line with quirkier design: TV screen, barrel-shape, multi-faceted case, etc. And the piece shown here may be the least quirky one, Constellation ref. 154.0002.
Having a rectangular shape with smooth rounded lugs, this watch though appears large thanks to its 32 x 39 mm measurement, it is still gentle and pleasant. The dial is finished with soft verical brushes and without that the surface might seem boring. Typically, 1970s OMEGA Constellation will have the OMEGA text down at 6 o’clock. Inside there is an automatic calibre 1001 featuring a quickset date. The cool thing is that you can either adjust the date forwards or backwards.
